Frequently Asked Questions
Can a landlord refuse to rent to families with children?
No. Discrimination based on family status (having children) is prohibited. Landlords cannot refuse families, require higher deposits, or impose different terms.
Is refusing tenants on social assistance discrimination?
Yes. Receipt of public assistance is a protected ground under the Code. Landlords cannot refuse applicants simply because they receive Ontario Works or ODSP.
How long will my LTB case take?
Current processing times vary 3-12 months depending on application type and urgency. We work to move your case forward as efficiently as possible.
What if my landlord or tenant does not follow the LTB order?
You can file a motion to enforce the order or contact the Sheriff for eviction enforcement. Continued violations may result in contempt proceedings or additional compensation.
