What speed is stunt driving in Ontario?
On roads posted below 80 km/h: 40 km/h or more over the limit. On roads posted 80 km/h or above: 50 km/h or more over. On any road: 150 km/h absolute. These thresholds were set by the MOMS Act in July 2021.
Is stunt driving a criminal offence?
No. Stunt driving is a provincial offence under the Highway Traffic Act. It does not create a criminal record and will not appear on a CPIC background check. However, police can also lay a separate Criminal Code dangerous driving charge in extreme cases.
How long does a stunt driving conviction affect insurance?
The conviction stays on your driving abstract for three years, but insurance rates can remain elevated for five to six years. Many drivers are forced into the Facility Association high-risk pool at $7,000 to $15,000 per year.
Can I get my licence back during the 30-day roadside suspension?
Generally no. The 30-day administrative suspension is immediate and non-negotiable. It applies before any court appearance. You may be able to apply for an appeal of the administrative suspension, but these are rarely granted.
